Has Wisconsin got the Husker’s number or what? The Huskerdefense continues to improve and it showed again last Saturday. The Blackshirt secondary held Wisconsin to 114 passing…one of the lower totals of the year, and light years better than last year. The one thing they struggled with was stopping the run, and it really showed in the OT.
Offensively, it was tough sledding. The Huskers played one of the best defenses in the country and it showed. Nebraska ran for a little over 3 yards per carry which left too many 3rd and long situations. At times, the Husker’s receiving corps were able to get open and get some good yardage after their catches, and other times they could not get an inch of separation from their defenders. They did have their 4th quarter rally, coming from 10 down to tie the game, and I really thought when Wisconsin missed the FG in regulation and the extra point in OT, it was destiny that the Huskers would win, but is was not to be…sigh.
While the loss was disappointing, this team showed they could play with anyone!
OHIO STATE GAME
This week the Huskers face the 7-1 Ohio State Buckeyes. So what is a Buckeye? It is a small brown nut that grows on the Ohio State tree…the Buckeye tree. All season long, this was expected to the toughest game for the Huskers. I don’t think a lot has changed in that regard, however in recent weeks, Ohio State has shown they are human. Two weeks ago, they were beaten by Penn State, and last week, they barely beat Northwestern at home 24-20.
Ohio State is loaded with exceptional athletes including their QB J.T. Barrett. Running backCurtis Samuel leads the team with 8 TDs this year. Defensively, the Buckeyes are loaded with guys that will likely be playing on Sunday some day soon.
Statistically, the Buckeyes out shine the Huskers both on offense and defense. Ohio State currently has the 6th best defense in the country compared to the Huskers who have a respectable ranking of 20th. On offense, Ohio State is ranked 20th while the Huskers are 48th.
One of the few places the Huskers have the edge is in penalties…believe it or not, the Huskers average less penalties, unfortunately, the Huskers have more penalty yards.
Still, the Buckeyes have not been playing great ball lately and they look beatable. One thing that will definitely help the Huskers is the return of Cethan Carter. It looks like Carter will be back for the game this week and he can be a real match-up problem for anyone.
Can the Huskers pull this one out and move to 8-1? Come Join us this Saturday at Dukes and find out! We had about 120 folks at the game last week and expect even more this week.
Saturday, November 5th Watch Party
Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Ohio State Buckeyes
Game Coverage Begins at 5:00 PM PDT
Well, Nebraska dropped in the polls, but not much. They are ranked 9th in the AP poll, 10th in the Coaches poll and 10th in the first week of the College Football Playoff rankings. The Buckeyes are heavy favorites this Saturday being favored by the vast majority of pundits. The folks in Las Vegas are making the Buckeyes 17 point favorites.
Nebraska has beaten the spread 5 times this year, missed it once and tied one time. As with last week, I think the current spread is too high, and I think the Huskers have a shot.
We hope you can join us Saturday, November 5th at Duke’s…doors open at 4:00 PM.
Duke’s will be offering a variety of dinner items. Arrive early for good seats! Families with children are welcome, however OLCC rules dictate that minors may not remain if a game goes beyond 9 PM.
The next game is on November 12th at 4:30 PM PST against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
The annual OR4NE holiday party is scheduled for Sunday evening, December 4th at Gold Valley Brewery in Beaverton. The party runs from 5-9 PM and includes dinner and a voluntary white elephant gift exchange, that always leads to some interesting surprises! Yes, I know we are all sick of election talk this time of year, but OR4NE is holding elections for Executive Board members later this year. If you are a current member of OR4NE, you have a vote. In addition, if you would like to serve on the Executive Board, please let a current board member know by November 12th and we can put you on the ballot. Executive Board positions include President (must have served at least 1 year as a board member), Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
The Executive Board then appoints individuals to a variety of committees (watch party, merchandise, pubic service, etc.) If you don’t want to be an Executive Board member, but would like to help in other ways, notify a board member or respond to this email.
Ballots will be distributed at the watch parties on November 19th and November 25th. Ballots will be due by the end of the game on November 25th.
If you are unable to attend either of those games and would like a ballot, please respond to this email.
